Free · five real checks · about a minute

Is a website actually worth it for your business?

We sell websites. That doesn't mean you should buy one. Tell us what you do and where you work, and we'll run five real checks on your market on Google and give you a straight score out of 10 — including when the honest answer is “go slow”.

Peter reads every result himself and will tell you straight on the call — including if the answer is don't buy.

Free. We use your details to text you a code, email you the result and follow up once. No mailing list. The job value is only used for the “what it could be worth” line and is never shared.

What the five checks are

Every point on the score comes from a measured fact, and every fact is printed beside its points with where it came from. No guesses. If a check can't run, it's left out — never counted as zero.

  1. 1
People searching for what you do

How many people near you type in what you do each month, using the phrases customers actually use — not the ones a web guy would pick.

  2. 2
How hard those searches are to rank for

How strong the sites already holding those searches are. Weak sites mean a well-built local site can compete; strong ones mean a long climb.

  3. 3
    Who holds page one today

A live Google search, run from your area, for your biggest phrase. How many results are local businesses with their own site, how many are directories like hipages, and what the map shows.

  4. 4
How strong the local reviews are

The review lead you'd have to climb to sit in the top three businesses like yours near you.

  5. 5
How many rivals have no website at all

The share of businesses like yours near you that can't be found beyond the map. A Facebook page doesn't count.

What the score means

8 to 10
Wide open

Real demand, weak competition. A proper site has a clear shot at page one.

6 to 8
Worth it

Real demand, beatable competition. A few months of steady work to get in front.

4 to 6
Worth it, but slower

People are searching, but established businesses hold the page. Go in for the long game.

Under 4
Tough on Google

Strong, established competition. Build for credibility and referrals first, and let search come slowly.

The score measures how much room there is for a new local website to win on Google for what you do, where you work. It is a check of your market, not a forecast of what a website will earn you. Search figures are SE Ranking modelled Australian estimates, not Google's own counts; page-one and listing facts are read live from Google on the day. We cap how many automated checks run each day so the data behind them stays paid for — if yours is over the cap, Peter runs it by hand.
